EAA 1111 Provided free airplane rides to 51 youths today!!

YE FlightToday 51 youths from ages 8 to 17 enjoyed their first small airplane ride at the Wings & Wheels event at the Scappoose airport.  Six pilots from the chapter provided their time and gas to offer these free Young Eagle rides.  It was made possible with the help from more than six other ground crew helpers.  Click on photo below to check out the awesome video of this young girls first airplane ride.

Member Mary Ann summed it up very well with the following comments:

I am sooooo amazed and impressed with everyone today.  I want to compliment everyone on how organized everything was and how smoothly this day’s event was run.  Kevin, it really reflected all your work and planning. There was a lot of thought that went into the entire set-up.  Michelle and Lisa, aided by George’s son, ran the sign-in table so well, in-spite of how hectic and overwhelming it was.  They had to make some tough calls.  Scott resourcefully met all types of needs, including finding an extra booster seat.  The ramp crew was efficient and kept planes moving safely and smoothly.  And non-EAA planes landing today had no confusion as to where to park.  The pilots gave thorough walk-arounds and debriefings. Considering the number we served, they did a really good job.  And considering the number of flights, they probably donated a total of about $1,000 in gas.  I am impressed!  Great Job!

EAA Chapter 1111 Wins National Best Website Award at Oshkosh AirVenture!

Website AwardLast Saturday, prior to departing Oshkosh, a few of us were treated to the EAA Chapter Breakfast at EAA HQ.  Trevor Janz, Manager of Chapters, and several other EAA personnel spoke to us including Jeff Skiles.  At the breakfast national awards were given out to Chapters around the country.  This year our Chapter took home the award for Best Website!  Mark & George accepted the award from Jeff Skiles.  Read more HERE.

Website PlaqueJeff Skiles is somewhat of a household name after his landing an Airbus A320 in the Hudson with Captain Sully following after hitting a flock of geese in 2009.  Skiles new position puts him at about the number two guy in charge back at HQ.
